The Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (subclass 400) allows skilled individuals to visit Australia for short-term, highly specialized work or activities that cannot be performed by an Australian citizen or resident.
Designed for people undertaking short-term, highly specialized, or non-ongoing work — such as urgent repairs, specialist projects, or event participation.
Usually valid for up to 3 months. In limited circumstances, it may be granted for longer depending on the project or situation.
Applicants must have skills and experience relevant to the proposed work, meet health and character requirements, and hold adequate health insurance for their stay.
Applications are submitted online through ImmiAccount. You’ll need documents such as an invitation letter, proof of purpose, and evidence of your skills or qualifications.
This visa only permits the approved, short-term specialized work. Holders cannot engage in ongoing or unrelated employment while in Australia.
Multiple entries may be allowed while the visa remains valid, provided you respect its conditions and expiry date.
Note that the Subclass 400 visa is temporary and does not provide a pathway to permanent residency. For long-term work or migration, other skilled or employer-sponsored visas should be explored.
