BRIDGING OPEN WORK PERMIT (BOWP)
The Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) allows individuals in Canada with a pending
permanent residence (PR) application to continue working while waiting for a
decision — ensuring no interruption in employment or legal status.
Key Highlights
- Open Work Permit: Not employer-specific — allows you to work for any employer
in Canada.
- Continuous Employment: Keeps you legally employed while your PR application is
processed.
- Eligibility: Available to applicants under Express Entry programs such
as CEC, FSWP, FSTP, or PNPs.
- Duration: Usually valid for up to 12 months or until a PR decision is made.
How to Apply
- Confirm eligibility and ensure your PR application has been accepted for processing by IRCC.
- Apply online for a BOWP through your IRCC account before your current permit expires.
- Include proof of your PR application and valid temporary status in Canada.
Tip: Apply for a BOWP at least 30 days before your current
work permit expires to avoid gaps in employment.
Note: Check the latest eligibility updates on the
IRCC website.
