The Start-up Visa was designed for early-stage entrepreneurs who wished to establish innovative businesses in the UK for the first time. Although the Start-up Visa has now been replaced by the Innovator Founder Visa, existing Start-up visa holders can continue to operate their businesses and extend their stay under the new route.

Application Process

  • Obtain an endorsement letter from an approved UK endorsing body.
  • Apply online for the Start-up Visa with supporting documentation.
  • Pay the visa application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).
  • Attend biometric appointment and wait for a decision (usually within 3 weeks).

Successful applicants can set up and run their business in the UK and later switch to the Innovator Founder Visa to continue growing their enterprise and apply for permanent settlement (ILR) after 3 years.
